WHITE AIR EXTREME SPORTS FESTIVAL - 2005

TT with a few of the competition winners and volunteers. There is some real raw talent out there waiting to be discovered, as we found out during our training sessions. |
TT's performance at this years' White Air Extreme Sports Festival couldn't have gone much better. Despite having a limited range of obstacles to play around with, the creativity traceurs are renowned for shone through and everyone managed to pull something spectacular out of the bag. (Plus, we had a chance to wear our new tee's)
Our main obstacle, a large wooden block that Andy so lovingly and carefully made for us the week before, proved an interesting and almost impossible challenge. Some expert mooching of grip-tape by myself solved the lack-of-grip problem and suddenly it became a cat-leap dream. (A MUST have for any traceur's emergency pack by the way)

Apart from simply demonstrating parkour, the team also held 'have-a-go' workshops for anyone eager to learn the basics, and the response to this was staggering. With over 60 people, not counting those who came through for a second or even third try, joining in on the first day to be trained up and ready to tackle the ground level precision jumps and cat leaps!

DC lending a helping hand to some of the kids learning how to execute a running precision jump. |
Although part of our area was shared with the mountain boarders, we were able to incorporate the massive kicker ramps set up for them and use them in our very own unique way!

The rain made the Sunday a bit of a washout, but some quick thinking resulted in a few basic obstacles being *ahem* requisitioned from the press area and moved into a marquee for us to use. Unfortunately, as with many last minute plans, it didn't go as well as hoped, mainly due to the wet floor, lack of room and planning, but we endeavoured and put on the show as best we could, even managing to rope in a few volunteers from the crowd!

All in all, a very positive weekend, we look forward to doing the same but bigger and better next year. So make sure you keep an eye out for us and why not join in for a bit of fun down at the Isle of Wight. In the meantime, check out the White Air Demo videos to check out some of the action that happened on the Island: Click Here

Molotov picking his way through the mini obstacle course |
Big shout outs to Nigel, Andy and Dave (Badger) without whom none of this would have been possible. A huge thank you to Distance skateboards for the grip-tape, and to Tom Bartlett for the funky parkour artwork. Last but definitely not least, cheers to Bobby, Stoney and Molotov for joining us on this cool event and just generally being great guys.
